The project involves the creation of three autonomous holiday homes, located on a long and sloping plot in the area of Planos in Zakynthos. Considering the orientation, topography, and views of the plot, the two holiday homes are developed over two floors, while the third is entirely on the ground floor. The spaces on the ground floor are formed by thick stone walls clad with local stone, which act as connecting elements to the surrounding earth and serve as the “solid” base upon which the white volume of the upper floor rests. In some areas, the stone walls extend further to create wind-protected courtyards and ensure privacy on the covered terraces.
The design of the project had to address two main challenges: managing the characteristics of the topography and connecting the traditional with the modern element. The materials used in the project, as well as its aesthetics, reference the island architecture while simultaneously aiming to meet the demands of modern living.
